CliffNotes - a new way to communicate with your fellow Cliffers!

What is it?

Way back when, Uncle Joe used his megaphone to communicate with kids who were swimming too far out from the beach. It was the beginning of high tech communications at Scientists' Cliffs, but only Uncle Joe could use it.

Today we have a new megaphone, and everybody can use it. It's the new Scientists' Cliffs "listserve" and CliffNotes is its name.
"I get it! Where do I sign up?"
--- Just click here for instructions.
Think of it as community-wide e-mail. If you send a message to CliffNotes, you will be sending a message to all the list members. Eventually, as more people sign up, if you send a message to CliffNotes, you will be sending it to a couple of hundred Cliffers. Any member of CliffNotes can respond to you directly or to the whole list - or post a brand new message.

This is a place where Cliffers can exchange news, information - and opinions -- about the community. This means a broad variety, from SCA services, stuff for sale, cabins to rent or purchase, and suggestions (or warnings) about plumbers and other contractors, to concerns about new building plans and issues related to proposals before the SCA Board of Directors or annual meeting.

CliffNotes is an electronic Community House or back fence, where you might meet and chat with your neighbors. It's a great way to encourage dialog, either community-wide or person-to-person.

How does it work?

When you see a posting on CliffNotes and you want to answer it, click Reply in your email program to go directly to the person who posted the message, or Reply All to go to everybody in CliffNotes.

How do I sign up?

Any member of the Scientists' Cliffs community (members, family of members, and registered renters) may apply.

To apply for membership in CliffNotes, simply click HERE and follow the directions.

Your application will be processed and you will be welcomed immediately upon acceptance. If you don't already have one, you'll get a free scientistscliffs.org e-mail address as well.

What's this about a scientistscliffs.org e-mail address?

It's free, and all you need to do to get one is tell us who you are, and your postal address at Scientists' Cliffs. Our system uses your scientistscliffs.org address to ensure that our listserve is limited to SCA members, members of their families, and renters.

You don't need to USE your scientistscliffs.org e-mail address - simply set the "forwarding" option to your everyday e-mail address, and the system will recognize you as a valid member.

How to do the basics

Post your message to the list by sending it to CliffNotes@mail-list.com.

A blank message to these addresses performs the following:

CliffNotes-off@mail-list.com gets you off the list.

CliffNotes-switch@mail-list.com toggles you to/from the fancy digest version. Those who don't want to get all the messages as they are sent out can send a blank e-mail message to the switch address and they will begin receiving a digest (the daily output of the whole listserve). Sending to it again toggles that person back into the regular every-posting process.

CliffNotes-vacation@mail-list.com toggles you to/from the vacation list: send a message to it when you are going to be gone and don't want messages piling up. Sending another blank message to it on your return restores you to the regular flow of posts.

CliffNotes Archives

Members of CliffNotes can refer to our archives web site to review any messages posted days, weeks, or even months earlier on the community listserv.
